A New Window

Fitted the new window today! And Boy, does it really change the feel of the place. Fitting was straightforward, helped by me ordering the correct size window. Makes all the difference, you know...... ;)
Need to make up some suitable trim to go around it. Just trying to decide on the timber.
Also received a 4000 grit waterstone today. Really helps to remove the wire edge when sharpening. I use 800, 6000 and 10,000 and found the jump from 800 to 6000 left the wire edge a little too tenacious. Well worth £12 if you have this problem too.
Off to Exeter for a week on Saturday so I'm trying to get my work responsibilities sorted so I can have a worry free week. Now, where are the tool shops in Exeter again?
Cheers

What a wonderful placement. I like the opening uppers--gotta help for letting out heat on the oh so warm days!

Take care, Mike

Boy, that's nice. Wish I had a window in my w'shop :( I see there's a drawback to all that space though - long walk to the planes! ;~)

Toolshops in Exeter? You mean there's more than the one? There is a wood yard though, least they claim to be in Exeter. Wish my workshop looked that tidy :)

Thanks Mike-I thought it would make sense from a security point of view, too. Like to see someone climbing out of that window with a handful of tools......(disclamier: I am NOT encouraging trying this!!!!)
Alf-the walk to the plane cabinet is quite daunting ;)
Mike R-you sure you're not just keeping quiet about all those really qheap 2nd hand tool shops? ;)

Exeter's no good, but Topsham Quay Antiques Centre has a few old tools, as do a few places around Exmouth - all spread about by "Old Tools Feel Better". At least there used to be, but I had the feeling there was a hint of "winding-up" by OTFB last year. He does awful things to saws anyway, so you wouldn't be interested...

Seriously Phil "baint be nothing round ere" Seems to be only the one boot fair a month as well and there's never much there that I've found. I did once see a couple of wooden planes in Toby's reclamation yard, and theres Topsham as ALf says, not been there but a little suspicious of the "antiques" label.

Oh well-not like I NEED more tools, is it? ;)
Hang on-you sure you're not still winding me up? "You doth protest too much, Sir".......... ;)
So you like the idea of a UK Workshop get-together, then? If we could just get Mike "Sawmeister" Wenzloff over for a saw sharpenening demo it would be perfect.......
